Hospitality House Presents Celebrity Dance Competition Benefitting Families in Medical Crisis
Tulsa’s favorite celebrities team up with professional dancers to cha cha cha, fox trot and tango their way to the dancing title at Hospitality House of Tulsa’s first annual fundraising gala and celebrity dance competition, “A Time to Dance with our Stars”, Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at Central Center in Centennial Park, 1028 E. 6th Street, Tulsa.
“We’re very excited about this event, and are grateful to have the participation of such amazing celebrities, professional dancers, and supporters, who are joining together to raise funds and awareness for families in medical crisis,” says Toni Moore, Hospitality House President & CEO, “This event is based on Ecclesiastes 3, where we learn there is a time for everything – a time to be born, a time to die, a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to mourn. Our families at Hospitality House experience many of these times. But on September 11th, it’s time to dance!”
The event includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, a smoothie bar, and a live and silent auction with items ranging from jewelry, date nights, sporting events and family entertainment to concert tickets, autographed music memorabilia, hunting and fishing trips, and weekend get-aways. The evening also includes an open dance floor with professional dance instruction for all, and a celebrity dance competition featuring some Tulsa favorites. These “dancin’ machines”, who have rehearsed countless hours in hopes of claiming that coveted mirror ball trophy, include: KJRH Meteorologist, Julie Chin; Fox 23 Sport Director, Steve Layman; KWHB 47 “Press on Fitness” Host, Miranda Burcham; KTUL Meteorologist and Weather Producer, Phil Price; Mrs. Green Country, Sasha Townsend; and Broadcaster for Tulsa Oilers, Steve McCall. The panel of judges includes Professional Ballroom Judge, Jim Wright; Channel 8 “Good Day Tulsa” anchor, Kristin Dickerson; and Hospitality House Volunteer and St. John Nurse, Josh Thomas. The winner will be determined by combining judges’ scores with text voting. So, the public is encouraged to go online to view practice videos, watch celebrity interviews, and text vote for their favorite dancing stars at www.tulsahospitalityhouse.org/events.htm. Text voting starts Friday, Aug 27th. Each text voter will receive free Arby’s food and drink coupons.
In addition to the evening’s festivities, Hospitality House will also be remembering and celebrating the great acts of hospitality performed on Sept. 11, 2001. While the rest of the world was gripped by terror, the community of Gander, Newfoundland came together to feed, house, and comfort over 7,000 strangers in a time of crisis when 38 jet liners were forced to make an emergency landing in their small community, a kindness Hospitality House and its supporters practice every day in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
