Anyone who has ever been in need of a web site knows what I’m about to say.  A great Web site is good to have, but hard to get (and just as hard to maintain).  The developer choices are limited to an old friend you haven’t seen for a while or your wife’s nephew who is helpful as he sees fit (and rarely if ever finishes the job) and then nothing ever seems to get done or fixed in a timely manner ever or a major corporation who wants you to mortgage your house but can’t seem to explain why it costs so much. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground.  We had been looking for over two years for the right language and right developers to deliver Currentland 2.0. I wanted a content management system so we would not be tied to a programmer every time we wanted to change or move something. In the end that left me with DotNetNuke for Windows or Joomla for Linux servers. Another alternative was to pick one of the ISP hosting services that offer an out of the box solution for newspaper web site there are several designed just for alternative newspapers. If you look at the web site for any alternative paper in most major cities you will see they are all using the same two or three services. I could not start down the road of templates and out of the box designs. For me that would be the beginning of the end of genuine creativity. I have been down that road before. So I interviewed dozens developers and just about gave up when we got lucky and found Swirlhost or should I say Swirlhost found us.  The guys at Swirlhost have developed a fantastic web site that didn’t break our bank and they were very sensitive to let us stay in the driver’s seat. The project grew and grew (once we got started). I was the one that had to say “stop we will have to leave that feature for Currentland 3.0 or we will never get done.” They never once fussed or got upset.  Big kudos to Will Gillen and Chris Garrett for developing my precious.

We also wanted to tell all of you who have registered as members on our earlier Web site and never heard from us again we never forget about you. In fact it was the exact opposite. Every time someone joined Currentland.com and the members folder grew and grew I would just shake my head and think, “ just a little longer I promise.” and while that went on for almost three years we saved every one of your e-mails asking us to be a part of the new Currentland, so look for our reply soon.  Be prepared to be wowed, Currentland 2.0, The Current and all we represent and have delivered over the years is on the Web and ready to thrill and amaze.  We had thousands of requests to be a part of something good, so we decided not to do anything middle of the road until we were ready to come out with a web site that would excite and deliver what you, our friends and fans, deserve in an entertainment  web site.

We hope it’s been worth the wait, because our new web site will have so much going on; we have the Ultimate Events Calendar, the Dining Guide, the Bar and Club Guide, Music Connection- and there is more being added every day. Currentland.com will never take the place of The Current, but what we fondly call Currentland will never be the same without it.

If you are in a similar situation for developing a Web site for your company, we highly recommend that you get in touch with Swirlhost for all your cyber-space needs.  They are some really smart guys with a lot to offer your company. I am already dreaming of Curretland 3.0.

Now go to www.Currentland.com and let us know what you think. Become a member I promise we will respond this time. Thank you all for your patience, now go forth and see the preciousssssss.
